Frozen Feeder Rat & Mouse Size Chart
Frostbite weighs every feeder and sorts it by grams, not by a guessed label. Rats run in 9 sizes from Pinky (1–13g) to Jumbo (301g+), and mice in 8 sizes from Day Old Pinky (0.1–1g) to Jumbo (30g+). Match the weight your snake eats now. When in doubt, size down.

How to choose a size
- Feed by weight, not by name. "Small" means different things at different suppliers. Our labels always come with the gram range.
- A common keeper guideline: a growing snake's meal is about 10–15% of its body weight. Adults usually eat smaller meals less often.
- Example: a 500g ball python × 10–15% = 50–75g, which is our Small rat (46–70g).
- Between two sizes? Pick the smaller one.
- This is general guidance, not veterinary advice. Always go by your animal's body size and feeding history.
Size questions
- What size rat for a ball python?
- Most sub-adult ball pythons eat Weaned to Small rats (31–70g), and adults eat Small to Medium (46–175g), depending on the snake's weight. Use the 10–15% guideline above.
- What size mouse for a corn snake?
- Hatchlings start on Pinky mice (1–3g), juveniles move through Peach Fuzzy, Fuzzy and Hopper / Small (3–13g), and adults usually eat Hopper / Small to Large mice (7–30g) or a Pinky rat (1–13g).
- What should I feed a baby hognose?
- Pinky mice (1–3g), then Peach Fuzzy and Fuzzy (3–7g) as it grows.
- My snake is between sizes. What do I buy?
- The smaller size. Our in-between gram bands exist so you don't have to jump up too far.
- Rats or mice?
- Ball pythons switch to rats early, after about 6–8 meals of Hopper / Small mice. Boas also move to rats as they grow, because one rat replaces several mice. Corn snakes, king snakes and hognose usually stay on mice. Read Rats vs Mice: When to Switch.
- How are sizes measured?
- Every feeder is weighed and sorted into its gram band before it's flash-frozen and vacuum-sealed.
